Garrett Maund inducted into Phi Alpha Theta honor society at Troy University

Garrett Maund of Ozark, Ala., has been inducted into the Iota Mu Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the international honor society for history, at Troy University.

Maund, a History major, was one of three new members welcomed to the honor society during a ceremony on Dec. 7 at the Dothan Campus.

To be initiated into the society, students must have taken at least four history classes, have a GPA of 3.25 in those classes and have an overall grade point average of more than 3.1.

Phi Alpha Theta was organized at the University of Arkansas in 1921. Today it claims more than 900 chapters and 350,000 members. The honor society hosts 35 regional meetings each year, publishes a well-respected academic journal, and offers scholarships and prizes to its members. Membership is open to non-history majors as well as history majors who maintain at least a 3.0 overall GPA and a 3.1 GPA in history courses.

Troy University's Iota Mu Chapter dates from August 1, 1964.
