Troy University recognizes 2025 Lamar P. Higgins Leadership Award winners

The Lamar P. Higgins Leadership Award recognizes students who exhibit a commitment to serving others and who have demonstrated outstanding leadership during their time at Troy University. Named in memory of TROY's first African-American Board of Trustees member, Higgins was also the first African-American elected to a leadership position on the Board as Vice President Pro Tempore. During his time as a student at TROY, he became the first African-American to be elected as Student Government Association President.

Sorrell College of Business Students Visit CAE

On February 26, 2018, the Sorrell College of Business students at the Dothan Campus had an opportunity to visit the CAE Dothan Training Center where they had the opportunity to see and experience the amazing technology utilized in flight simulators. The students were able to sit in a simulator cockpit and experience landing a fixed-wing plane.

Business Students tour Kia manufacturing facility in West Point, GA

On April 11th International Economics (ECO 4451) students were able to tie theory learned in the classroom to the only Kia Manufacturing Facility in the U.S., located in West Point, GA employing over 3,000 workers and producing over 300,000 cars a year!

Students Attend Wiregrass Human Resources Management Association Forum and Vendor Fair

On Nov. 15, 2017, the Sorrell College of Business students at the Dothan Campus had an opportunity to attend the Wiregrass Human Resources Management Association Forum and Vendor Fair. This fair was a one day conference for Human Resource professionals and all supervisors and managers geared to enhance managerial skills. The sessions include topics such as motivation, dealing with difficult employees, training, project management and onboarding.

TROY Alumnus Jeff Koch Speaks to SCOB Students on Leadership and the Pathway to a Successful Career

On Nov. 30, TROY alumnus Jeff Koch held a seminar for Sorrell College of Busines students at the Dothan Campus. His lecture included leadership examples from his past experiences in the military, as well as best practices regarding starting a career or seeking a promotion. Koch served 23-years in the United States Air Force, retiring in the grade of Colonel. He was a Command Pilot, logging over 3,000 flying hours. His flying assignments included the A-10 "Warthog", T-38, and DA-20. He is a combat veteran logging 160 hours of combat time in OPERATION Desert Storm. His other assignments for the included being a Programmer for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, an Advance Agent for Air Force One, and running the Air Force House Liaison Office on Capitol Hill. After his retirement in 2010, Koch ran the Legislative Liaison office for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). In 2012 he was selected to be a Chick-fil-A Operator, and in 2013 he opened the Chick-fil-A in Troy, AL. In April of 2016, he transitioned to the Chick-fil-A on Ross Clark Circle.

Students in the Sorrell College of Business at the Dothan Campus, recently visited the Todd Syrup Farm in Headland, Alabama. Todd Syrup Farm is a seventh generation business that boasts a general store, restaurant, museum and more. Faculty and students enjoyed learning the history of syrup farming.

Business Students Tour Mercedes-Benz plant in Vance, Alabama.

The Dothan Sorrell College of Business Faculty and Students visited the Mercedes-Benz Plant in Vance, Alabama to experience firsthand the manufacturing process of one of the world's most renowned automakers. The tour encompasses the 128-year history of Mercedes-Benz, as well as, their 20-year history in Alabama; showing the tour-goers the manufacturing process from start to finish. The Vance, Alabama plant is the only one of its kind in North America.

Farley Nuclear Plant Tour

Students in the Sorrell College of Business at the Dothan Campus, recently visited the Farley Nuclear Plant situated on 1,850 acres in Columbia, Alabama. Farley Nuclear is owned by Alabama Power and operated by Southern Nuclear. Students, Faculty, and Staff enjoyed learning about how nuclear plants operate and what types of careers are available at Farley Nuclear. Due to retirements and industry expansion, nuclear plants will need to fill 20,000 positions in the next 5 years.
