Students in Dr. Lane Boyt-Eckis' ECO 2251 class welcomed Susan Parrish, the TANF Supervisor with Geneva County DHR. Parrish spoke to the students about how economic fluctuations affect the level of cases at DHR; essentially the mental and societal well-being and its connection to economic growth and development.

On Nov. 15, 2017, the Sorrell College of Business students at the Dothan Campus had an opportunity to attend the Wiregrass Human Resources Management Association Forum and Vendor Fair. This fair was a one day conference for Human Resource professionals and all supervisors and managers geared to enhance managerial skills. The sessions include topics such as motivation, dealing with difficult employees, training, project management and onboarding.

Students in the Sorrell College of Business at the Dothan Campus, recently visited the Todd Syrup Farm in Headland, Alabama. Todd Syrup Farm is a seventh generation business that boasts a general store, restaurant, museum and more. Faculty and students enjoyed learning the history of syrup farming.

On Nov. 30, TROY alumnus Jeff Koch held a seminar for Sorrell College of Busines students at the Dothan Campus. His lecture included leadership examples from his past experiences in the military, as well as best practices regarding starting a career or seeking a promotion. Koch served 23-years in the United States Air Force, retiring in the grade of Colonel. He was a Command Pilot, logging over 3,000 flying hours. His flying assignments included the A-10 "Warthog", T-38, and DA-20. He is a combat veteran logging 160 hours of combat time in OPERATION Desert Storm. His other assignments for the included being a Programmer for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, an Advance Agent for Air Force One, and running the Air Force House Liaison Office on Capitol Hill. After his retirement in 2010, Koch ran the Legislative Liaison office for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). In 2012 he was selected to be a Chick-fil-A Operator, and in 2013 he opened the Chick-fil-A in Troy, AL. In April of 2016, he transitioned to the Chick-fil-A on Ross Clark Circle.

Troy University's Department of Theatre and Dance presented its Fall Dance show in November. About 70 students participated in 15 pieces, which were performed from Nov. 13 through Nov. 18 at the Long Hall Dance Studio in Troy, Alabama.

Students from Troy University's Department of Theatre and Dance recently produced the Tony Award-winning play "Peter and the Starcatcher.

The Dothan Sorrell College of Business Faculty and Students visited the Mercedes-Benz Plant in Vance, Alabama to experience firsthand the manufacturing process of one of the world's most renowned automakers. The tour encompasses the 128-year history of Mercedes-Benz, as well as, their 20-year history in Alabama; showing the tour-goers the manufacturing process from start to finish. The Vance, Alabama plant is the only one of its kind in North America.

Students in the Sorrell College of Business at the Dothan Campus, recently visited the Farley Nuclear Plant situated on 1,850 acres in Columbia, Alabama. Farley Nuclear is owned by Alabama Power and operated by Southern Nuclear. Students, Faculty, and Staff enjoyed learning about how nuclear plants operate and what types of careers are available at Farley Nuclear. Due to retirements and industry expansion, nuclear plants will need to fill 20,000 positions in the next 5 years.

Nearly 300 Troy University students pledged Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Gamma Delta, Chi Omega, Kappa Delta and Phi Mu sororities this fall at the Troy Campus.

Troy University is pleased to recognize the new members of Freshman Forum for the 2017-2018 academic year. The Freshman Forum is a branch of the Student Government Association specifically for incoming college freshmen and members serve as representatives for the freshman class.

Students enrolled in International Economics (ECO 4451) at the Dothan Campus recently toured the Hyundai manufacturing facility in Montgomery, Ala. Dr. Lane Eckis led a group of students on July 20 on a hands-on tour of the facility. Students learned about the impact of the automotive industry within Alabama. "We spent a great deal of time studying the level of international relations within our own state and actually got to view a segment of it through this tour," Eckis said. "Each and every student in attendance raved about the benefits of the tour. Based on statistics, it is possible our graduates will work in some area tied to the automotive industry if they remain in Alabama. It was indeed a great learning experience."
